Get Your WAIT Up!
Our Arts & Education division is currently featuring the nationally touring play, Get Your WAIT Up (GYWU). GYWU is a theatrical agitator. This cutting-edge and unconventional one-man theatre performance promotes abstinence among young people. One actor takes the stage with minimal props and 45 minutes later the minds of every young person in the audience are left to ponder the potential, very real consequences of having sex too soon. GYWU is an engaging catalyst, encouraging middle school, high-school and college students to participate in the dialogue about the only guaranteed way to prevent the growing epidemic of STDs and teen pregnancy… abstinence.
GYWU explores multiple issues dealing with sex among today’s youth: Issues such as the daily social and peer pressures to have sex, the expectations placed on romantic relationships, and even the truth about condom effectiveness. This informative and entertaining play is told through the perspectives of five modern-day characters who each discover just how valuable WAITING to have sex is and how abstinence can realistically be implemented and maintained in a young person’s life… even today.
Unlike many traditional abstinence programs that often rely solely on a moral message and discredit safe sex education, GYWU acknowledges the value of safe sex education without ever compromising its primary goal and message of encouraging young people to protect their bodies and futures by choosing to abstain from sex. It accomplishes this goal in a manner that doesn’t chastise or condemn, enabling young people to let down their guards and consider their personal accountability and how their actions today directly impact their lives tomorrow.
With its real-time connection to the culture of today’s youth, its use of humor, its multiple perspectives and its honest questions, GYWU effortlessly appeals to diverse audiences worldwide.
